Good to know before you apply

  • One BUS grant per property — you can't claim twice for the same home.
  • No EPC hurdle: you no longer need an EPC with no outstanding insulation recommendations to apply for BUS.
  • MCS-certified installer required for BUS — the installer applies for the grant on your behalf.
  • ECO4 is different: it's based on household eligibility and property efficiency, and it closes on 31 December 2026.
⏰ ECO4 ends 31 Dec 2026 · BUS uplift to 31 Mar 2027

No grant is promised or guaranteed before a full eligibility check. HeatFund is an independent eligibility-enquiry service — not the government, not a grant administrator and not an installer.

What is
HeatFund?

An independent guide to upgrading your home: which upgrades are worth it, what they cost, and every grant that can help. We're not the government's Great British Energy (gbe.gov.uk), and we're not an energy supplier.

More about us
UK energy grants available in 2026 include the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (£7,500 towards a heat pump in England and Wales, or £9,000 for an air or ground source heat pump in oil- or LPG-heated homes with no mains gas until 31 March 2027), the Warm Homes: Local Grant, 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, the Warm Home Discount (£150 off electricity bills) and ECO4, which closes on 31 December 2026. Scotland has Home Energy Scotland and Warmer Homes Scotland, and Wales has Nest.

One installer, never a marketplace

Your details go to one suitable installer that covers your area, and only when you ask for a quote. Your enquiry is not passed to anyone else.

Checked against the source

Grant figures are checked against GOV.UK, Ofgem and the Scottish and Welsh schemes, and each guide shows when.

Certified installers only

Before we introduce anyone, we check their MCS registration for solar, batteries and heat pumps, or TrustMark for insulation.

Straight about costs

Grants don't cover everything. When they don't, we say so and show what the upgrade really costs.

eligibility

No. The guides and the eligibility check are open to every homeowner. If a grant doesn't cover your upgrade, we'll say so and show what it really costs, so you can still decide whether it's worth doing.
Possibly — through ECO4 or the Warm Homes: Local Grant, which can fully fund insulation and heating for eligible households. ECO4 is for low-income and benefit households and work must be finished by 31 December 2026. The Warm Homes: Local Grant covers households on £36,000 or less, a qualifying benefit, or in a low-income postcode, through participating councils. Run the check above and we'll confirm which route fits.
A 4kW solar system is worth about £630 to £760 a year at October 2026 prices without a battery (DESNZ, PVGIS), and a typical installed system costs £6,600 to £7,800 with 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. What you save depends on your roof, how much electricity you use during the day, and whether you add a battery.
ECO4 is an energy supplier scheme that funds insulation and heating upgrades for low-income and benefit households. It's based on household eligibility and property efficiency, and it closes on 31 December 2026 — work has to be finished by then.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 off a heat pump in England and Wales — £9,000 for an air or ground source heat pump in oil- or LPG-heated homes with no mains gas until 31 March 2027, and £2,500 off air-to-air once MCS certifies installers. There's no income test and no EPC needed since 28 April 2026. An MCS-certified installer applies for the grant on your behalf, and there's one grant per property.
For most homes, rooftop solar panels are permitted development and don't need planning permission. Extra rules can apply to listed buildings and some conservation areas, and a certified installer will confirm the position for your home before any work starts.
It depends on your home — whether radiators or pipework need changing, and where the unit can go. A survey comes first, and the installer will give you a clear timescale in the quote before you commit to anything.
It's free for you. If you ask for a quote, the installer pays us for the introduction. Your details go to one suitable installer that covers your area, and only when you ask — never to a marketplace.
